Susan J. Mendel, 74

Susan J. Mendel, age 74, of Jasper passed away at 2:25 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.
She was born on August 21, 1939 in Jasper, Indiana to Wilfred and Marcella (Werner) Beyke.
She married Kenneth L. Mendel September 24, 1959 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2010.
She had worked for the Dubois County Extension Service for 35 years as a secretary and office manager. She was very active in the Dubois County 4-H program.
Susan was a recipient of the Diocese of Evansville Brute Award.
She is a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church where she served on the building and grounds committee and on the bereavement program for Precious Blood Church.
She enjoyed her ceramics.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynn Mendel, of Jasper; one son, Eric Mendel, of Jasper; two grandchildren, Jason and Phylicia Mendel and four great-grandchildren, Josh, haven, Grace and Colton; one sister, LaVerne Weisman and her husband Charles, of Jasper; three brothers, Kenneth P. Beyke and his wife Nancy, of Jasper, Richard C. Beyke and wife Rose, of Winslow, and Glenn W. Beyke, of Kennesaw, Ga.
Preceding her in death besides her husband is one sister, Marilyn E. Kendall.
Funeral services for Susan Mendel will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in Precious Blood Catholic Church with entombment in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
