Sultan’s Run named Indiana Golf Course of the Year

The Indiana Golf Course Owners Association announced Sultan’s Run in Jasper was the 2015 Indiana Public Golf Course of the Year.
At its 2014 Annual Convention at Valle Vista Golf Club in Greenwood, Indiana, the Indiana Golf Course Owners Association (INGCOA) voted Sultan’s Run Golf Club the 2015 Indiana Public Golf Course of the Year.
The designation is granted to the public course in the state that displays the highest quality of ownership and facilities, and exhibits a thoughtful contribution to the game of golf.
“We are proud to accept this award, given by our peers in the industry. Our staff strives to deliver outstanding service throughout the golf season, and to be recognized as a leader is an honor,” said Steve Braun, Owner of Sultan’s Run Golf Club.
Sultan’s Run Golf Club was purchased by Braun in 2009. In the five years of ownership, a significant investment has been made in course enhancements. Larger scope projects include a remodel of the Pro Shop and 19th Hole Restaurant. The club has also had to rebuild the bunkers and re-sod after the harsh 2013-2014 winter.
“The land this golf course inhabits has such a rich history, and combined with the scenic layout you really won’t find a more enjoyable golf experience,” said Jeff Howerton, Head PGA Professional at Sultan’s Run Golf Club. “We get players from all over, Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Indianapolis. And most of those people that are here for the first time say the same thing; they can’t really believe that such a quality golf course is down here in southern Indiana.”
The 224 acres of rolling hills were once home to Supreme Sultan, who sired a record number of Champion American Saddlebred Horses. Sultan’s Run Golf Club opened in 1992 under the namesake of the legendary horse.
