Substance Abuse Council grants $13,499.64 to area organizations

The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council (SAC) under the direction of Indiana Criminal Justice Institute awarded $13,499.64 in grant funding during the September 2014 applications.
The Governor’s Commission mandates SAC to provide funding in three categories: Treatment/Intervention, Prevention/Education, and Criminal Justice Services. Grants were awarded also awarded in March this year.
For September, the executive committee awarded grant applications in the Prevention/Education category to Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School drug tests, Northeast Dubois Post Prom, Crisis Connection Natural Helpers, Dubois County Community Corrections training, Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition 5K Walk, and Dubois County Probation for drug screens.
In the Treatment/Intervention category, grants were awarded to Crisis Connection for advocates and Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center journals and book on addiction.
In the Criminal Justice Services category grants, were awarded to Ferdinand Police Department for drug kits and Dubois County Drug Court for drug screens.
The funds the council awards for the programs are derived from countermeasure fees that are assessed by the Dubois County courts to alcohol and drug offenders as part of the court costs.
The SAC meets the second Tuesday of every month at 11:00 a.m. in the backroom of Shoney’s restaurant in Jasper. The public is invited to attend.
The mission of SAC is to reduce the problems associated with substance abuse in Dubois County in order to enhance family and community life.
