Substance Abuse Council announces $21,572.42 in grants

The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council (SAC) announced $21,572.42 in grant funding.
Under the direction of Indiana Criminal Justice Institute awarded the funding during the September 2015 applications.
The Governor’s Commission mandates SAC to provide funding in three categories: Treatment/Intervention, Prevention/Education, and Criminal Justice Services.
The SAC Executive Committee awarded grant applications in the Prevention/Education category for $6,671.76 to TRI-CAP for medication collections, Northeast Dubois High School and Forest Park Jr/Sr High School for drug screens, Northeast Dubois Post Prom for after prom activities, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for critical incident stress management training, Southern Hills for breathalyzers at group homes, and Crisis Connection for Natural Helpers.
In the Treatment/Intervention category grants for $7,450.33 were awarded to Northeast Dubois High School, Forest Park Jr/Sr High School, Dubois County Probation, and Dubois County Drug Court for drug screens, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for critical incident stress management training, and Crisis Connection for screening victims of domestic violence.
In the Criminal Justice Services category grants for $7,450.33 were awarded to Dubois County Probation and Dubois County Drug Court for drug screens and Dubois County Sheriff’s department for a radar unit and cameras.
The funds the council awards for the programs are derived from countermeasure fees that are assessed by the Dubois County courts to alcohol and drug offenders as part of the court costs.
The SAC meets the second Tuesday of every month at 11:00 a.m. in the backroom of Shoney’s restaurant in Jasper. The public is invited to attend.
