Strassenfest activities highlight Schaeffer Barn and Veterans Garden

The Schaeffer Barn was the center for a lot of activity Saturday morning

The Daughters of the American Revolution hosted activities in the Veterans Garden located in the rear of the barn. At the same time, volunteers provided stone carving demonstrations and other activities related to the early pioneer life in Dubois County, as well as tours of the barn and tools on display there.

According to Joe Rohleder, the group is looking for others who would like to be involved in helping at the barn and its attractions. Anyone interested is asked to contact Dana Reckelhoff at Jasper Park and Recreation, phone: 812.482.5959, to find out about opportunities.

River Lampert took a swing at a log to mark it with a log-marking hammer. The mark on the log tells lumber mills which logging company it came from to ensure they are paid.
