Steven J Thimling, 74, Sauk City, Wisc. (formerly of Holland)

Steven Jon Thimling, 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on December 16, 2025.

Steven was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on December 10, 1951 to Ambrose and Ruby (Sickbert) Thimling.

He married Kathy Alt on May 26, 1979, in Sauk City, WI.  

He was a 1969 graduate of Holland High School and a 1973 graduate of Purdue University. After graduation, he worked for Dames & Moore before moving to Wisconsin in 1978. He then worked for the Gordon Flesch Company as a service technician for 35 years before retiring in 2019.  

Steve had varied interests. He was a member of Orchid Growers Guild for many years. For 25 years, he was the fur trader for the 4th-grade Pioneer Days. Steve’s main interest was Boy Scouts. He joined with his son about 35 years ago and never left. His love for camping, hiking, and teaching the kids survival training was what he was proudest of. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2014, Steven and Kathy discovered a love for music and supported many local groups.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Alt Thimling; son, Kyle M. Thimling; sister, Sharon Krampien of Normal, Ill.; sister-in-law, MarySylvia Thimling of Beavercreek, Ohio; nephews, Brian Thimling and Zachary (Ashley) Krampien; and niece, Cheryl (Dan) Granger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Ruby (Sickbert) Thimling, brothers, Kenneth Thimling, and infant Mark Thimling.

A brief memorial service for Steven Thimling will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St James Lutheran Church Parish Hall in Holland, Indiana with visitation following until 4:00 p.m.

Service will be officiated by Rev Zachary Krampien.
