St. Charles to Mill Street Multi-Use Trail connection construction to impact Jasper streets

Plans call for the extension to run along Mill Street to the northern boundary of the driving range, turn west and then turn north to connect with 30th Street. It will then travel west on 30th Street before intersecting with U.S. 231/Newton Street, where a new pedestrian crossing will be constructed. After crossing U.S. 231/Newon Street, the trail will continue west on Northwood Avenue until meeting the multi-use trail on St. Charles Street.

The City of Jasper plans to restrict traffic on Northwood Avenue as it completes work associated with the multi-use trail connection between Mill Street and St. Charles Street.

As part of the Multi-Use Trail Extension Project, the city and its contractor will work on the Multi-Use Trail along Northwood Avenue from Newton Street to St. Charles Street. This work will require closing the eastbound and center turn lanes from Newton Street to St. Charles Street.

Westbound-only traffic from Newton Street to St. Charles will remain open. This closure is expected to begin on or after Wednesday, July 24, 2024, and remain in effect until approximately mid-November.

A dedicated detour route for eastbound traffic has been established, and the detour signs are posted. Please follow the marked detour route.

The City of Jasper asks that you use caution when traveling through construction zones.

The nearly 1.28-mile section will connect Mill Street near the new Whitey Schroeder Driving Range to St. Charles Street when it is completed.

As part of the project, Northwood Avenue will be narrowed to two lanes–the turn lane will be removed–to accommodate the trail on the south side of the road.

Here is an additional story regarding the planned extension.
