Special Will Read and Sing for Food show

Sally Saalman-Mosby, who was involved in what the New York Times described as “one of the worst days in the history of women in the American military” following a deadly ambush in Fallujah, will talk about her experience during a special Will Read and Sing for Food Show at 7:30 p.m.  Thursday, June 16 at the Ferdinand American Legion. 

The June 23, 2005, wartime tragedy left three women soldiers dead. Three male marines, including two who provided security for the cargo truck, were also killed.

Corporal Mosby, of Tell City, and six other women were flown to a burn center in Texas, where even morphine could not kill the pain of having their charred skin scrubbed off.

WRASFF Show No. 87 will also include special guest singer-songwriter Daniel Market, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Market, an Indiana native, spent most of his 20s and 30s playing shows in the Midwest and on the East Coast. In the 1980s, he moved to Nashville and while playing venues such as the Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner Cafe, The Sutler and others, he earned a master’s degree in microbiology from Vanderbilt University.

Market, who has performed in two other WRASFF shows this year, will be signing and selling his CDS, including his 2016 release, “Almost Alive From Sunset Beach.” The show will also include WRASFF players Debbie Schuetter, The Gatwoods, R.J. Brooks and Jeff Crandall, and humor essayists are Scott Saalman and Jasper High School English teacher Brooke Keusch. The 90-minute show is a mix of live music and comedy — and enlightenment with the addition of Mosby.

To date, WRASFF has raised, through the generosity of its audiences, $66,265 for two dozen causes and charities.
