Southwest Dubois County School Board: Mihajlovits new transportation director, Altmeyer hired as middle school assistant principal
Huntingburg — Dominos of change in personnel continue to fall for the Southwest Dubois School Corporation as was witnessed at the board meeting Tuesday night.
The Southwest Dubois School System has a new Corporation Transportation Director. Al Mihajlovits was appointed and hired for the position by School Superintendent Mike Eineman. Mihajlovits is also the principal of Southridge Middle School.
The position opened up after assistant to the superintendent Chad Schenck left the school corporation this past summer to take over the responsibilities of transportation with the West Clark Community School Corporation in Clark County.
Mihajlovits was given a raise to handle the extra responsibilities and a new assistant principal for Southridge Middle School was hired to help him with the operations of the Middle School.
The new assistant principal is Annette Altmeyer. She is a former teacher in North Spencer Schools, is a current resident of the community and has several children already in the Southwest School System.
Eineman was enthusiastic about the choice. “She knows all about the corporation, a very bright lady. She’s already started – she’s been working for a couple of weeks…we look for good things from her,” he said.
Eineman said that his choice of Mihajlovits wasn’t a new idea. “It was something he and I talked about when I got the position here as superintendent.”
Mihajlovits said he has been with Southwest Schools since the first year of Southridge High School in 1974.
Also in the meeting last night the board held a public hearing on the 2014 budget. Eineman announced that the advertised rate in the budget is $2.599 per $100 of assessed valuation. The actual rate will go down once the Department of Local Government Finance approves the budget in the coming months. Last year’s advertised rate was $2.20, while the approved rate came in at $1.29.
