Southwest Dubois County School Board meeting notes
The southwest Dubois county school board met for their regular monthly meeting Thursday night.
Mike Eineman sat in for Superintendent Terry Enlow who is on leave. He is expected back on April 1.
The board approved Eineman’s resignation as principal of Southridge High School. His resignation is effective April 15, the same day his contract as superintendent begins.
The board also approved a 38 ½ month superintendent contract. According to the contract, Eineman will be paid $102,500 per year, but that amount will be reduced to $98,500 per year until he moves into the district. Eineman currently lives in Jasper but stated he plans on moving to the district in the near future.
Southridge Assistant Principal Kelly Murphy will finish the school year as the interim principal when Eineman takes over as superintendent.
-The board also heard that the Raider bus a had mechanical problem while transporting the softball team to Paoli. A brake drum locked up but was repaired in Paoli while the game was being played.
-The board approved seeking estimates from the architectural firm Fanning Howey to repair the east wall of the pool or expand the pool area to accommodate a diving well.
The board is facing two issues. The exterior wall is leaning away from the building and, due to changes in safety regulations, when or if the current diving board breaks, the school will not be able to replace it. The diving well would allow the school to continue the diving program.
If they do add the diving well, the recommendation being considered calls for the current pool area to be expanded towards the parking lot precluding the need to fix the exterior wall.
Board president Kevin Wertman stated he did not want to raise any taxes to fix the problems with the pool, but felt the school should examine their options by allowing the firm to create estimates for both options.
-Heard Southridge Middle School has raised over $3700 for Riley Hospital for Children The school is one of 14 schools in Indiana listed on a plaque in recognition of great generosity at the hospital. The middle school has raised over $20,000 over the past four years for Riley Hospital.
-Construction at the school is drawing to a close. The noise is finally gone as the contractors continue to finish a few items around the property. The dedication is scheduled for April 15.
-Heard that the Southridge High School Athletic Department was awarded the Southwest Indiana Officials Association HOSPITALITY Award for the seventh time in nine years. Southridge students, Bobby Hall and Jayme Lindauer will each receive a $500 Sportsmanship Scholarship in conjunction with the award.
-Heard the Southridge High School also received an IHSAA Sportsmanship award. Only about 25 percent of the schools in Indiana receive this award.
