Southridge win sweetens dedication night - Dubois County Free Press, Inc.

Despite an early Forest Park Rangers lead, Southridge came back and won their home opener Friday night.

The win was especially sweet with it being the inaugural game in the Lady Raiders’ new softball complex against county and Pocket Athletic Conference rival Forest Park.

But, well before Forest Park ever arrived, the bleachers were filled for a commemorative game between past Lady Raiders coaches and veteran players. The new field worlds away from the shared field at Huntingburg City Park the girls have played on for many years, everyone was impressed with the quality and beauty of the new addition to the school.

After the commemorative game, a short dedication ceremony was held honoring the many people that came together to make the new field a reality.

Early in the game Forest Park scored two runs and after Southridge came back, Forest Park jumped ahead again. Finally, Southridge was able to break a 5-up tie to win the game 7-5.

The Raiders were led by Kendyl Dearing with three singles and a triple in four trips to the plate.

Allison Bounds doubled and tripled, scored twice, and drove in a run.

Shelby Kippenbrock also singled twice in four at-bats.

Kabrea Robling doubled and Megan Stapleton singled to add to the Raider offense.

Amanda Lange, Kayla Smith, and Emily Gutgsell contributed with seven of Forest Park’s eight hits.

The Raiders will face county rival Jasper at home on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
