Southridge Students will return to continued construction

The Southwest Dubois County School Board was notified that the earliest completion date for the school remodel would be in November. Current plans have returning students being able to use the main entrance to the school and the administration back in the front office area, but students will still be using temporary classrooms.
Tony Heath with the construction management firm Skillman Corp addressed the board at the regular meeting and explained the progress. Heath informed the board the contractors have not fallen any further behind but have not gained any ground on the set-backs caused by the weather last year. “We have had great contractors working on this project and they have adapted to the changes we have made to the phases of the project to make the school more usable for this school year,” Heath said, “but we haven’t gained any of the lost time.”
The group told the board the earliest the construction would be done is November. School Board President Kevin Wertman expressed his frustration about the timeline. “The freshmen who gave input into this project are now graduated.”
School Superintendent Terry Enlow stated the length of time required for the referrendum and the planning involved slowed the project considerably. “I wish the kids were in the classroom,” Enlow said. “I think we can pull it off, we’ll get enough kids out of the way of the construction that it won’t be as intrusive as its been.”
