Southeast Dubois School Corporation to consider $45M in improvements

Southeast Dubois County School Corporation is holding a project hearing and second preliminary determination hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the corporation office, 432 E. 15th Street, Ferdinand.

The corporation is holding the hearing as it considers bonding for extensive updates and renovations to Ferdinand Elementary School and Forest Park Jr./Senior High School.

Additions to the Junior/Senior High Schools include a new entrance, several classrooms, a new kitchen and cafeteria, and a junior high gym. The auditorium and band/choir rooms would also be renovated.

Ferdinand Elementary would also receive a new entrance and ADA-compliant bathrooms for students and faculty.

Both facilities require new entrances to provide additional security and limit direct access to classrooms from the front doors.

The estimated cost for all the recommended updates and renovations is approximately $ 45.23 million, although officials expect to split the project into phases.

On Wednesday, the corporation will discuss the need for updates, provide an overview of the project, and outline the financial impact of the project.

The public will have an opportunity to speak during the hearing before the corporation’s board of trustees makes a decision.
