Snow days equals make-up days

The recent spat snow days has forced local school corporations to use up some of their built-in make-up days.

Although not approved yet by the school board, Greater Jasper Superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey told WITZ News in an email that she will seek board approval during the Monday, March 16th meeting to put Good Friday in as a school day to make up for one of the two snow days that they had to be out last week due to the snow and cold weather.

Lorey says that she does not yet know where the second day will be inserted into their calendar — again a decision that must be approved by the board.

She said they will discuss it and decide on the final day to be made up during next Monday’s meeting.

Meanwhile, Northeast Dubois Superintendent Bill Hochgesang says they will be in session on April 3rd, Good Friday, and April 6th as snow make-up days.  They will also be in session May 26, 27, and 28th.  The 28th is the last day of the school year.

Rick Allen, Superintendent with Southeast Dubois says that they are not adding any days to their calendar, as of yet, to make up snow days. He reports that they will not be in session on Good Friday and that their last day is Tuesday, May 26th.

Superintendent Mike Eineman with Southwest Dubois reports that they will hold classes on March 20th and April 3rd to make up snow days. Also, their last day for school will be May 22nd. They will be in session on May 20, 21, and 22nd.
