Sleepy driver ends up in bean field southeast of Jasper

A sleepy driver ended up in a bean field along State Road 162 Wednesday at about 6:25 a.m.

According to police, Jonathon M. Yates, 25, of Tell City, told them he dozed off while driving his 2002 Buick Lesabre northbound on State Road 162. He lost control of the car and then overcorrected causing it to go off the right side of the highway just south of Schnellville Road.

Police said the car went down an embankment and flipped several times before coming to rest on its wheels facing south in a bean field.

Yates suffered facial lacerations.

Police said the car was a total loss and the bean field owned by Hochgesang Farms had about $200 in damages.

Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
