Sister Mary Roman Dall, 80, of the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, died at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

A native of Ferdinand, Indiana, Sister Mary Roman was born March 5, 1934, the fifth of eleven children born to Anton and Johanna (Verkamp) Dall. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1950 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1952.

She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Wendholt of Jasper, Mildred Hoffmann and husband James of McAllen, Texas; three brothers, Arthur and wife Rita of Jasper, Robert and wife Marie and Norbert and wife Carol, all of Ferdinand; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters, Rose Mary Kersteins, Alberta Dall, Clara Mae Hackman, Rita Ann Dall, and Irma Jean Lujan.

For almost 50 years Sister Mary Roman ministered in education as a teacher, principal, reading consultant, and tutor. She taught at schools in Indianapolis; in Evansville at Holy Redeemer and Holy Rosary, where she served as principal; Boonville; St. Anthony; St. Thomas, Vincennes; Rockport; and Ferdinand Elementary. She served as reading consultant for Southeast Dubois School Corporation. She was administrative clerical assistant and more recently assisted the monastery coordinator and tutored students.

Visitation will be at the monastery on Monday, November 17, from 2 – 7 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 18, from 2 – 4:30 p.m. A wake service will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the monastery church with burial to follow.
