Sister Johnette Finis, 91

Sister Johnette Finis, 91, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the monastery.
Sister Johnette was born January 23, 1922, in Vincennes, Indiana, the third of five children of John and Catherine (Baier) Finis. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1940 and made her monastic profession of vows in 1942.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Margaret Furry and Sister Kathleen Finis, OSB; and her brothers, Rev. John Finis and Frank Finis.
Sister Johnette was a music teacher for 32 years, teaching at St. Benedict and St. Joseph schools in Evansville, Assumption and Christ the King schools in Indianapolis, Haubstadt, Ferdinand, St. Meinrad, and at Precious Blood and Holy Angels in Fort Wayne. She was director of religious education at Celestine. She was a music minister for parishes in Boonville, Louisville, Lanesville, Montgomery and Evansville. She worked in volunteer services for Holy Family Parish and Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. Sister Johnette served in hospitality as a receptionist at Kordes Center and in supportive services at the monastery. Since 1997, she has served in the ministry of prayer.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. EDT on Sunday, June 23, at the monastery, followed by a wake service at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday from 2 to 4:15 p.m. EDT. The funeral Mass will begin at 4:30 p.m. EDT on Monday. Burial will follow in the monastery cemetery.
