Sister Dolorosa Hasenour, 99, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 8:14 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the monastery’s Hildegard Health Center.

Sister Dolorosa was born July 4, 1915, in St. Anthony, Indiana, the sixth of 10 children of Martin and Susana (Wagner) Hasenour. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1931 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1933. She celebrated the 80th anniversary of her monastic profession in 2013.

She is survived by nieces and nephews and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Andrew, Walter, Othmar, and Bernard Hasenour; and five sisters, Eleanor McGuire, Ludwina Schu, Sister Mary Othmar Hasenour, OSB, Marie Dietsch, and Frances Tieken.

Sister Dolorosa began her 60-year teaching ministry at St. Benedict School in Evansville in 1935. She also taught at St. Joseph, Holy Rosary, and Holy Redeemer in Evansville, Haubstadt, and Marian Heights Academy in Ferdinand. She served as principal and teacher at Elberfeld, Starlight, Boonville, Huntingburg, and Montgomery. She worked in supportive services at the monastery, translated German documents for the monastery archives, and served in the ministry of prayer.

Visitation will be at the monastery on Wednesday, February 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. EST and on Thursday, February 12, from 2  to 4:30 p.m. A wake service will be on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
