Sister Barbara Jean Luebbehusen, 66

Sister Barbara Jean Luebbehusen, 66, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 4:41 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the monastery.

Sister Barbara Jean was born November 2, 1949, in St. Henry, Indiana, the second of three children of Emil and Martina (Graehler) Luebbehusen.  She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1967 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1969. She celebrated the 25th anniversary of her monastic profession in 1994.

She is survived by her sister, Clara Mae Boeglin of Ferdinand; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Henry.

For the past 15 years, Sister Barbara Jean was a teacher at Sacred Heart Model School in Louisville, Kentucky.  She was also a baker in the monastery bakery.  She previously served as a missionary and teacher in Morropón, Peru, and in Cobán, Guatemala.  She was a clerical assistant to administration and technical services assistant at the monastery and a sales associate in the monastery gift shop.  She also taught at Holy Spirit School in Evansville, Indiana.

Visitation will be at the monastery on Friday, April 8, from 2 to 6:45 p.m. EDT and on Saturday, April 9, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  A wake service will be on Friday at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
