Shirley L. Schmitt, 83, Ireland

Shirley L. Schmitt, 83, of Ireland, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:18 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, in the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Shirley was born in Jasper, Indiana, on April 6, 1936, to Herman and Elizabeth “Betty” (Schnell) Brescher.

She was a 1954 graduate of Ireland High School.

Shirley retired from Leed’s Selling Tools in 2009 at the age of 73, where she had worked for over 30 years. Previously she had worked for the K of C, the Phone Company, and from home, typing for the license bureau.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, and a member of the St. Ann’s Society.

She loved her family and friends, and her wonderful trip to Medugorie, Bosnia Herzegovia, in November 1996 with her church family. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and being around her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Reuber of Ireland and Beverly Weyer of Ireland; three sons, Doug (Gloria) Schmitt of Loogootee, Dean Schmitt and companion, Michelle Roelle, of Otwell, and Daniel Schmitt of Jasper; six grandchildren, Dustin (Brandi) Schmitt, Abby (Doug) Mitchell, Tara (Shane) Gibbs, Kiersten, Cole, and Ivan Weyer, and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are one brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Aline Brescher.

Funeral services for Shirley L. Schmitt will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. service time at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund, Heart-to-Heart Hospice, or to a favorite charity.
