Sheriff’s Department warns of scam paving company bullying customers
The sheriff’s department has received several complaints regarding a group posing as a paving company.
According to authorities, the group is going door-to-door in the area offering to pave driveways with asphalt left over from a project. Once the work is completed, the pavers attempt to charge the customer more than the agreed upon price for the work.
Deputies have received at least five complaints about the group today. In one case, the pavers agreed to complete the job for $4,500 and then charged the customer $9,000. When the customer balked at the price, the pavers bullied them into paying the higher amount.
The paver’s truck has a sticker indicating they are a member of the Better Business Bureau, but deputies determined the group is not a member of the organization.
According to authorities, residents should not agree to a project unless a legal contract — one on paper, not verbal — is signed by both parties.
