Sheriff’s department raising funds for second K-9
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department announced plans to add another K-9 to be used for drug detection.
The department acquired Judge, a black Labrador trained for drug detection and tracking, in 2013. Deputy Brad Kendall and Judge attended training last spring and took to the streets that summer.
Deputy Jesus Monarrez, who was also designated as a K-9 officer last year, will potentially team up with a second dog to ensure Dubois County has a K-9 unit available 24 hours a day.
Recently, the sheriff issued a thank you to those who supported the acquisition of Judge for the force. He stated he would be seeking to add another dog to help combat what he referred to as a plague of drugs in the county — including the recent increase in heroin use.
Individuals or businesses interested in making a donation towards the purchase and training of a second K-9 can contact the department at 812-4812-3522 and speak with Deputy Jesus Monarrez.
