Shelly’s Unique Boutique is not just any consignment store.

“It’s a ladies’ boutique,” smiles owner Shelly Fuhs Seger. “Men have their bars and their golf games. Ladies have their shopping.”

Shelly’s Unique Boutique will be a year old on June 23, but the birthday celebration will last an entire month. Weekly discounts, prizes and give-aways will be featured.

And, a very special silent auction will be held.

Shelly’s Unique Boutique is all about women — helping them feel good about themselves, whether they’re tiny or plus-size. So, when speaking with her friend, Joan Knies, who works with Crisis Connection, Inc., Shelly came up with the idea of holding a fundraiser through her business.

“[Joan] was giving me statistics about date rape, domestic abuse, bullying… right here in Dubois County. I was shocked. I love what I’m doing here and I want to give back,” Shelly explains.

So, throughout the month of June, Shelly’s Unique Boutique will hold a silent auction, with all proceeds benefitting Crisis Connection, Inc.

It’s not the first time Shelly’s Unique Boutique has thrown fundraiser. Last October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a quilt raffle was held, with all proceeds going to the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center. In addition, people were invited to decorate a “Benefit Bucket” for someone battling cancer or the family of someone who lost that battle. At the end of the month, all money in the bucket was given to the person the bucket was decorated in celebration of or the family of the buckets in memory of. The bucket with the most money was given a gift certificate to Shelly’s Unique Boutique as well as for a manicure/pedicure with Terra Fuhs at iCandy.

Daughter Gwen is already embroidering quilt patches for next October’s quilt raffle.

Shelly’s Unique Boutique is definitely not just any consignment store.

Customers feel the difference the moment they walk through the door to bright yellow walls with deep pink accents. Clothing is artfully arranged by size and color, while shelves of purses, scarves, accessories, jewelry and shoes line the walls. Clothing, purses and shoes are gently (very gently) used. Scarves, accessories and jewelry are brand new (check out the line of sunglasses with built-in cheaters).

Shelly and her girls, daughters Gwen Persohn and Shanelle Best, sister Becky Wehr and new associate Krista Dittelberger, are eager to help customers assemble an outfit — or an entire wardrobe — at prices that won’t break the bank. They will even come to a client’s home to assist them in their closet clean-out.

A self-described shop-a-holic, Shelly Seger worked in retail sales for 10 years, including one consignment shop. She not only loves clothes, she knows her brand names.

Now, much of her addiction is assuaged by happily digging through racks shopping for perfect outfits for her loyal clients.

“I’ll have a customer call and say, ‘I need this or that for such and such a function. Find me something and I’ll be in on my lunch hour.’ And we’ll put together a few things for her to choose from,” Shelly explains.

Throughout 2013, Shelly is offering a special for women losing weight.

“Bring in your old wardrobe for consignment and receive 13% off your purchase,” Shelly says. “It’s an incentive, plus a way to look great as you change sizes.”
