Severe Weather Preparedness Week and the Annual Statewide Tornado Communications/Warning Exercise

To focus attention on the approaching tornado and severe weather season, the week of March 8-14, 2026, is designated Severe Weather Preparedness Week throughout the State of Indiana.

The purpose is to stress the importance of promoting the public’s awareness of what actions to take in case of tornadoes and other types of severe weather.

In conjunction with this, and in cooperation with the National Weather Service, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana State Police, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 has been selected as the date for the Statewide Tornado Exercise, which will be initiated at approximately 10:15 a.m. (EDT). Dubois County will be participating in the upcoming exercise.

Please note that all sirens in the county, including the City of Jasper, will be tested. Should actual severe weather be a threat that day, the exercise will be held on March 11, 2026. There will be no evening exercise.

Your participation in this annual exercise will help to improve your tornado preparedness and severe storms awareness programs and plans. This is the time to consider purchasing a NOAA weather radio so you have the means to receive notices immediately as they are issued.

Dubois County Emergency Management Agency can program Midland NOAA weather radios Model#WR-120 for Dubois County residents. Please feel free to reach out to our office for more information. Our goal is to prevent, if possible, as many deaths and injuries from tornadoes and other severe storms this season.
