Schwan’s truck driver LifeFlighted after crash

A Schwan’s truck driver had to be extricated from the commercial truck he was driving after crashing on State Road 56 Monday afternoon.

According to deputies, Levi Dalton, 21, of Williams, Ind., was eastbound on State Road 56 near the Dubois Crossroads at about 4:28 p.m. when for an unknown reason, the truck went left of center, returned to the eastbound lane and then went off the south side of the road. The 2014 ISU Schwan’s Delivery Truck came to rest in a large ditch.

Dalton was trapped in the vehicle and first responders had to cut through the cab roof to extricate him. He was then transported by ambulance to a landing zone at the intersection of State Road 545 and 56 where he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

The road was closed for over an hour and a half. A large wrecker from Ruxer Ford assisted in removing the delivery truck from the ditch. The truck was considered a total loss.

Deputies were assisted by the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services.
