Erica Schmidt is the new executive director of the Huntingburg Event Center.
Schmidt, 30, has been in training for the position since October. She came to the Event Center with over five years of non-profit management experience, including community outreach and fund development. Schmidt begins her position immediately.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Huntingburg Event Center, I am delighted to welcome Erica Schmidt as the new executive director,” said Board President, Allison Menke. “Her wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership will help the Event Center move forward in its mission to enhance economic growth, quality of life, and serve as a safe haven in times of emergency.”
Prior to coming to the Huntingburg Event & Community Center, Schmidt oversaw Washington County SOAR! Adult & Family Literacy, which provides free one-on-one tutoring to adults and families in Washington County.
In addition, Schmidt was a Literacy Specialist and Grant Writer for Scott County Economic Development. Her community involvement has included Washington County Prevent Child Abuse, Substance Abuse Council, Women’s Giving Circle, Service Providers, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Alzheimer’s Association team captain, Washington County Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Springs Valley Pet Services.
Schmidt’s experience will help strengthen not only the mission of the Huntingburg Event Center but the community as well.
Schmidt studied political science at New England College and has a Masters of Public Administration from Norwich University. She is also a member of Phi Alpha Alpha Honor Society.
Schmidt said she looks forward to working with the community and enhancing the Huntingburg Event Center. She welcomes community members to stop in and say hello.
“One of the reasons I went into non-profit management was the people,” Schmidt said. “I love working with and meeting new people who are passionately dedicated to their community.”
Erica resides in Huntingburg with her husband, Harry Day.
