Scammer using local deputy’s identity
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that a scammer is using a deputy’s identity to scam people out of money.
According to police, someone representing themselves as Deputy John Anderson is calling residents and informing them there is a warrant for their arrest. The scammer then attempts to solicit money from the victim.
Anyone receiving calls from a person who is purporting to be Deputy Anderson is directed to contact the sheriff’s department at 812-482-3522 or the dispatch center at 812-482-9111 to verify.
As always, residents are cautioned to never give out their personal or banking information to anyone over the phone.
