Save energy and earn $25 for an area non-profit

energizing-indianaJasper — A new fundraiser is available for the residents of Jasper and Huntingburg that allows them to save money on their electric bill and raise up to $25,000 a year for their favorite local non-profit.

Dan Worl, Energy Efficiency Manager for Indiana Municipal Power Association (IMPA), introduced the Energize Indiana program at a recent Jasper Utility Service Board. Worl is the Manager of Energy Efficiency for IMPA.

He explained that the energy-saving program assists the power agency in relieving excess loads on the power grid and in effect saves those power producers money.

Residents receiving power through IMPA can take advantage of the program. Huntingburg and Jasper are both members of IMPA and residents within the their city limits can receive a home energy efficiency inspection. Those inspections take about 45 minutes and can be done in the evening or on the weekends. Through the inspection, homeowners can learn of potential energy efficiency problems in their homes and once the inspection is completed, Energize Indiana will contribute $25 to a non-profit of the resident’s choice.

In Huntingburg, the Huntingburg Housing Authority is featuring the program to raise money for their programs and Jasper has heard of at least six non-profit organizations taking advantage of the program to raise funds.

Residents can suggest the energy inspections to anyone that is a customer through a power company within IMPA. “A Jasper resident can recommend an energy study for a resident outside of Jasper and still receive the $25 donation to the non-profit of their choice,” Worl explained.
