Sarah “Margaret” Schroeder, 83

Sarah “Margaret” Schroeder, 83, of Jasper, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Jasper Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.

Margaret was born in Kyana, IN on July 17, 1932 to Clifford and Elsie (Waddle) Huff. She married Bill Schroeder on September 2, 1952 in Jasper, IN. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1985.

Her husband, Bill, was the second recipient of the artificial heart.

Margaret was a homemaker and previously worked at Newberry’s in Jasper. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post #147, the Ladies of the Moose, Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, a Stephen’s minister, and was the women’s chairperson of the American Heart Association.

She enjoyed crocheting, going to the casino, bingo, car trips ending with ice cream, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by two daughters, Monica Bohnert and her husband Robert of Sparta, Ill. and Cheryl Humbert and her husband Glenn of Jasper; four sons, Mel Schroeder and his wife Patti of Ferdinand, Stan Schroeder of Jasper, Terry Schroeder of Jasper and Rod Schroeder of Jasper; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister,
Nora Fleck and husband Ralph of Kyana; brother, Frank Huff of Kyana.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were two brothers, Arthur Huff and Riley Huff.

Funeral services for Margaret Schroeder will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Becher Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. The American Legion Post #147 Auxiliary will perform a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.
