Sarah Jane “Bets” Bonner, 86

Sarah Jane “Bets” Bonner, age 86, of Dubois, Indiana passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Sarah was born in Dubois, Indiana on June 9, 1928 to George and Julia (Merkel) Friedman. Her first marriage was to Thomas Striegel, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1954. She then married Arthur Bonner and he preceded her in death in 1987.

She worked for General Electric in Tell City, Indiana in earlier years, and she was then a homemaker after she married Arthur. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, Indiana and the Ireland Sportsman’s Club. She enjoyed hunting, turtle hunting, playing softball, playing cards, pitching horseshoes, bowling, and playing bingo.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith Ann Pieper and her husband, Victor, of Dubois; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one son Jerry Striegel; four sisters, Marie Hentrup, Dorothy Zehr, Martha Friedman, and Ardella Friedman, who died in infancy; and eight brothers, Alvin, Maurice, Delmar, Russel, Howard, Clifford, Joseph, and Charles Friedman, who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Sarah Jane “Bets” Bonner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, Indiana with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

There will be no visitation.
