Santa Claus, Community Christmas Tree lighting and more coming to Jasper this Friday

Santa Claus is coming to town on Friday, November 29.

Santa will greet children at the Sixth Street Fire Station from noon until 12:45 p.m. Then, Santa will board the fire engine around 1:00 p.m. at the fire station to head up to the Square to light the Christmas Tree.

You are welcome to walk with the mini-parade, along with Santa’s elves and members of the high school band. They will parade to Santa’s Special House on the west side of the Square where the coloring contest winner, Jaxton Maners, a second grader at Ireland Elementary, will turn on the Christmas Tree Lights and open the door to Santa’s house.

Mayor Vonderheide will then welcome everyone with a special greeting.

Children are encouraged to dress up as Christmas packages and walk with this mini-parade.

Children can then visit with Santa (in his house) all afternoon until 3:00 p.m.

Children and families can bring canned goods that will be donated to the Community Food Bank.

Community Christmas Tree, new wreaths and other decorations beautify city for the Christmas season

Steve and Vicky Meiring of Jasper donated the beautiful community Christmas Tree on the courthouse lawn during the 2024 Christmas and holiday season. This very large and beautiful tree serves as Jasper’s main Christmas tree for the entire holiday season.

The additional lights on the tree and the planters on the Patoka River bridge were financed by Patoka 2000, a committee of the Jasper Chamber. Contributions were received by individuals in the community in memory of loved ones, or in honor of special occasions.

Heart of Jasper volunteers, along with employees of German American and Kimball Electronics, worked hard this year (with the help of Green Thumb) to remove the summer plantings from the downtown flower pots and put in the festive Holiday Décor.

More than 130 decorative wreaths have been placed throughout the entire downtown area as a 2022/2023/2024 project from ROJAC and the many ROJAC members who contributed to these updated holiday decorations.

The City Electric Department did an outstanding job again this year installing all of the lights, wreaths and the community Christmas tree. They were also responsible for designing, making and placing the star at the top of the main tree.

Through all of these efforts, the City of Jasper will have a bright and festive look throughout the entire holiday season of 2024
