Samuel “Sam” E. Huff, 89, Jeffersonville
Samuel “Sam” E. Huff passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024. He was 89 years old.

He was one of 11 children born in Birdseye, Indiana to the late Claude and Gladys Huff.
Sam honorably served in the Army (ER52 450 881 SP5 USAR) from 1956 until 1962. After leaving military service, Sam joined the Plumbers, Pipefitters & Service Technicians of the United Association Local 502 and served as a member for 60 years. Sam was also elected to serve on the Watson Water Company Board of Directors for more than 30 years.
Sam was an avid member of the Boy Scouts of America. For over 35 years, Sam served in various scouting roles such as Vice President of Scouting, Roundtable Commissioner, Order of the Arrow Advisory Board, Pinewood Derby Chairman, Commissary Staff National Jamboree, and Scoutmaster. Sam also received numerous awards from the Boy Scouts such as Order of the Arrow Founder’s Award (2001), George Meany Award (1993), President’s Award (1990), Scouter of the Year (1981), Silver Beaver Award (1978), District Award of Merit (1974), and Vigil Member (1974). Additionally, Sam was an ordained elder of Bethany Christian Church in Charlestown, Indiana.
Sam was dedicated to the love of God, family, and friends. He had a huge heart that he shared with everyone, and he loved to have fun. He was an avid gardener taking special joy in raising tomatoes and eating strawberries. Sam shared his love for food by cooking for others. He became especially popular for his homemade ice cream and his personal orange-pineapple sherbet. Due to his love of ice cream, his friends and family named him the official “ice cream taste tester.” Sam also loved making and solving 3D mechanical puzzles, which served as fun brain teasers for his friends and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Bonnie Huff; children, David (Annette) Huff, Christl (Thorsten) Sell, Susan (Rick) Stagg, and Paul (Laura) Huff; sister, Elsie (Elwood) Able; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Scott’s Funeral Home on Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg at 11:00 a.m. with a service at 1:30 p.m. and burial at Fairmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Bethany Christian Church (Charlestown), Central Christian Church (Huntingburg), or Lincoln Heritage Council Boy Scouts of America.
