Samuel C. Voelkel, 74, Boone Township

Samuel C. Voelkel, 74, of Boone Township, Ind., passed away at 6:11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. 

Sam was born in Jasper on November 15, 1947, to Radius and Eldena (Buchta) Voelkel. 

He was a 1965 graduate of Ireland High School. 

He was the owner of Jasper Communications from 1976 until his retirement. 

Sam enjoyed photography, especially wildlife photography and taking photos of star constellations and buildings. He was also an electronics inventor and enjoyed computers and woodworking.   

He is survived by one brother, Bret (Sharon) Voelkel of Jasper; one sister-in-law, Rebeca Voelkel of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; four nieces, Lori Voelkel, Marissa (Dwayne) Curry, Victoria Voelkel, and Sara Voelkel; two nephews, Steven and Andy Voelkel. 

Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother Allan Voelkel, and one brother, William Dallas Voelkel, who died in infancy.  

A funeral service for Samuel C. Voelkel will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in St. John Cemetery in Boone Township, Indiana. 

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the 5:00 p.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel on Thursday. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Community Foundation.

  3. My deepest sympathy to the family. Sam was always so friendly. I remember him from the days of his shop on 5th Street and I worked around the corner at the fabric shop to working with him on a beautiful photograph donation for the Jasper Band auction. Rest in Peace, Sam!
