Sam Morrow, Harbor and Home, and The Goodwin Brothers highlight 14th annual Ferdinand Folk Festival
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Ferdinand Folk Festival, brought to you by Best Home
Furnishings, returns to beautiful 18th Street Park, for our 14th annual event. Six local, regional,
and national artists make up the 2024 lineup.
Our headline artist, Sam Morrow, has carved out a sound that exists somewhere outside of
genre and geography. It’s his version of modern-day American roots music: a mix of
roadhouse rock & roll, bluesy R&B, and country-fried funky-tonk, driven forward by groove,
grease, and guitars.
It’s also a sound that owes as much to the road as the various places he’s called home. This is
music for the fast lane. Music for empty highways. Music for people who, like Morrow, always
seem to find themselves in transit. His latest album, On The Ride Here offers more than
roadside ephemera and travelogue tales. Morrow isn’t just focused on the drive these days;
he’s interested in the destination, too, and a number of these songs deal with the hard lessons
and new perspectives that come with rest, reflection, and time spent at home. We are excited
this ride will bring him to the 2024 Ferdinand Folk Festival!
Here are the other performers that you will see on the NextEra Energy Resources Main Stage:
The Hammer and The Hatchet, made up of John Bowyer and Jayme Hood, are no strangers to the Ferdinand Folk Festival. They have become Folk Fest regulars with numerous performances on the Kyana Woodstock Market Stage and several children’s concerts in the Lower Shelterhouse over the last several years. They will bring their original Midwestern Roots music to the main stage for the first time, playing from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m.
Borrowed Time will take the stage from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Local fans will be familiar with Andy and his daughter Ella Rose, from the Hagedorn Family Band that performed at the 2021 edition of the Festival. They have combined with three members of the Schemenauer family, Kevin and sons Gabe and Dominic, creating a new blend of music for Hagedorn’s original songs.
The third act of the day will also have some Ferdinand Folk Festival veterans. Arianna Barton has played the main stage before as a member of The Strings of Indian Creek, most recently in 2022. This time, she brings along an all-star female band, The Bourbon Britches and will take the stage from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Kelsey Lee (Southern Sirens 2022), Anna Blanton (Strings of Indian Creek 2022) and Kendra Villager will back up Barton as she supports her debut album Stronger.
The Goodwin Brothers, the first of our three nationally touring acts, will bring some bluegrass to
Ferdinand from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. The nucleus of the band is Jonathan & William (Vocals, Guitar & Mandolin) along with Kenneth (Chase) Bush on vocals. They have collectively assembled an all-star cast of musicians that accompany them on their new self-titled album, and in their live shows.
Harbor & Home is a Minneapolis-based rock band directed by lead singer Kaleb Williams. They will play a 90-minute set of their own from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Described as having a “classic, emotionally gratifying sound that transcends time and place,” their music is a blend of roots Americana and classic rock n’ roll. Their latest EP, Change, presents the band’s shift toward country, with lyrics that hold deep and honest reflections about life and loss.
Following Harbor and Home, Sam Morrow will close the night from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
