Ruth “Ruthie” Elliott, 88, Jasper

Ruth “Ruthie” Elliott, 88, of Jasper, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

She was the daughter of Silas and Marie Giesler, born May 18, 1936.

She married Gerald “Jerry” Elliott on Feb. 7, 1959, in St. Joseph’s Church. Jerry preceded her in death.

Ruth was known as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved spending time with family or gardening and planting flowers outdoors.

She was an avid card player but welcomed games of all kinds.

She was an excellent cook, able to whip anything into a gourmet meal and usually left people baffled on how she was able to do it.

She and Jerry were able to turn any floor into a dance floor where they twirled, twisted and glided and mesmerized their onlookers.

She is survived by Gene and Sandy (daughter) Merkley and family, Lori (daughter) Elliott and family, Mel and Stacie (daughter) Woody and family, Josh and Leslie (daughter) Evans and family, brothers Billy, Donnie,Terry and Larry, and sisters Viola, Betty and Susie.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Charlie, Bobby, and Eddie, and sisters Jane, Virginia, Margie, Shirley, Linda, and Bernie.

Ruth was cremated and her family will have a Celebration of Life along with burial of ashes at Fairview Cemetery to be announced at a later date.
