Ruth E. Sermersheim, 82, Ireland

Ruth E. Sermersheim, 82, of Ireland, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana. 

Ruth was born in Ireland, Ind., on January 6, 1938, to Roy and Lorena (Fuhrman) Freyberger.  

She married Eugene C. Sermersheim on January 31, 1957, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1995. 

Ruth was a 1956 graduate of Ireland High School. She worked in local factories, cleaned houses, and babysat. Ruth was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 

Ruth enjoyed her cats and spending time with family. She loved mowing her yard and taking care of her flowers. 

She is survived by her two children, Mike (Cheryl) Sermersheim of Ireland and Deb (Roger) Knies of Celestine; six grandchildren, Daniel Sermersheim, Abby Dupps, Jaleigh Becher, Brittany Schnell, Erin Terwiske, and Shayla Land; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandra (Sonny) Lents of Jasper; one brother, Roy Freyberger Jr. of Otwell. 

Preceding her in death besides her husband are two children, Becky Kempf and Mark Sermersheim, and one sister, Annie Sendelweck. 

Private family services will be held. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Humane Society.
