Ruth Alice Schmitt, 87

Ruth Alice Schmitt, age 87, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 1:45 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at her residence.

She was born May 21, 1926 in Jasper, Indiana to Henry and Philomena (Gramelspacher) Lechner.

She married Frank J. Schmitt on April 15, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Ruth was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality, St. Mary’s Quilting Club and the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by: one daughter, Karen Sue Schmitt; one brother, Vincent Lechner; and four sisters, Cordella Hopf, Florence Hurst, Rosetta Keusch and Marcella Heim.

She is survived by her husband, Frank J. Schmitt of Huntingburg; five sons and four daughter-in-laws, Roger Schmitt of Washington, IN, Daniel (Sherry) Schmitt of Velpen, Norbert (Phyllis) Schmitt and Mark (Doris Harris) Schmitt, both of Huntingburg, and Lee Ray (Susie) Schmitt of Washington, IN; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Mary Beth (Tom) Vogler of Ireland, IN, Diana (Dennis) Uebelhack of Mt. Vernon, IN, and Kim Davis of Huntingburg; one sister, Eleanor Gogel of Jasper; one brother, Virgil Lechner of Jasper; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ruth Alice Schmitt will be held at 11:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntingburg.

Friends may call for visitation at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 8:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday morning, the day of the funeral. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
