Russel “Eldo” Reinhart, 91, of Holland, Indiana, passed away at 10:13 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

He was born July 17, 1923 in Dale, Indiana, to Elmer and Della (Medcalf) Reinhart. He married Patricia E. Frick on August 2, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana.

Eldo worked at Frick’s Hardware Store in Huntingburg as store manager until his retirement. He formerly served on the Huntingburg City Council. He was the Assistant Fire Chief of the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association District 18 Chairman. Just recently, he was honored by the I.V.F.A. with a life membership gold card and 50-year pin.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #2366, and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Eldo enjoyed fishing and hunting; and was an avid Cardinal’s Baseball fan. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Patricia E. Reinhart, who passed away September 13, 2014; one daughter, Sonia Reinhart; one son, Kent Reinhart; three sisters, Ruthie Spurlock, Faye Hufnagel, and Donna Heady; two brothers, Earl Reinhart and Ronnie Reinhart; one grandson, Adam Fischer; and one great grandson, Erin Reinhart.

 

He is survived by two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Bruce (Rachel) Reinhart of Jasper and Jeff (Karen) Reinhart of Holland; two daughters and two son-in-laws, Sherry (Doug) Perkins of Fort Pierce, Fla. and Sheila (Daniel) Fischer of Indianapolis; four brothers, Paul Reinhart of Mason, Ohio, Bob Reinhart of Atlanta, Ga., Amon Reinhart of Joliet, Ill., and Ray Reinhart of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Doris Counts of Warren, Mich., Fern Rice of Newburgh, and Norma Sanzoni of Clinton, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Russel Eldo Reinhart will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. Pastor Mark West will officiate at the funeral.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. conducted by the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association District 18 and the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department. Memorial donations can be made to the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department or to a favorite charity.
