Rosa Jean Haas, 90

Rosa Jean Haas, age 90, of Jasper, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, in the Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community.
She was born at Carmi, Illinois, February 1, 1924 to Clarence and Carrie (Howell) Hughes. She married Robert F. Haas April 27, 1943. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2009.
Rosa Jean graduated from Carmi High School, Class of 1942, she was the Carmi Corn Queen of 1941.
During WWII she worked at Republic Aviation where she was a real “Rosie the Riverator”. She retired as stenographer from the Indiana State Police where she worked from 1954–1974.
She loved traveling, square dancing, golf, hiking, back-packing and cards. Rosa Jean and her late husband Robert wintered in Mission Texas for 30 years. She is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper.
Rosa Jean is survived by one son, Steven Haas and spouse Sharon, of Jasper; two grandchildren, Keith Haas and wife Shannon and Tonya Statler and husband Brad; four great grandchildren; Lindsay Haas, Emily Haas, Brittany and Bryce Statler; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband are two brothers, Kenneth and Houston Hughes and one sister, Willma McDermott.
Funeral services for Rosa Jean Haas will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper with burial to follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Carmi , Illinois.
The Rev. Jane Hillman and Rev. Catherine Burnette will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or St. John Lutheran Church in Boone Township Indiana.
