Ronald J. “Ron” Schwinghamer, 81, Ferdinand
Ronald J. “Ron” Schwinghamer, 81, of Ferdinand, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Deaconess Mid-Town in Evansville.
Ron was born August 8, 1941, in Jasper to Michael and Flora (Krapf) Schwinghamer.
He was united in marriage to Elsie Uebelhor on February 24, 1962, in St. Ferdinand Church.
Ron was a 1959 graduate of Jasper High School. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserve. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and its St. Joseph Sodality. He was a member of Ferdinand Legion Post 124 and its Color Guard.
Ron retired from Kimball after 30 years.
Ron was a charter member of the Ferdinand Community Center and the Y.M.C.A.
Ron enjoyed grilling, and spending time with his family, coaching Little League and Senior League Baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Indiana University basketball fan. He enjoyed the annual Reelfoot fishing trip every spring, as well as spending winters in Florida and traveling.
Prior to his cancer, Ron was a long-time blood donor to the American Red Cross and a recipient of the twenty-gallon pin.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elsie Schwinghamer; two sons, Kris (Diana) Schwinghamer of Ferdinand and Kurt (Anne) Schwinghamer of Louisville; six grandchildren, Kari (Troy) Leinenbach, Kyle (Sydney) Schwinghamer, Kaci Schwinghamer, Evan, Will, and Nicole Schwinghamer; two great-grandchildren, Beckett Leinenbach and Ryann Schwinghamer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Esther Rumbach, Mary Ann Hedinger, Eileen Hall, and Elfrieda Fleck; one brother, Dennis Schwinghamer, who died in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 26, 2023, in St. Ferdinand Church, burial with military graveside services will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:00 am.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Cemetery Fund or The Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.
