Roman G. Kiefer, 89

Roman G. Kiefer, 89, Ferdinand, formerly of St. Meinrad, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 1:50 a.m. at Northwood Retirement Community, Jasper.
He was born July 21,1925 in Jasper to Robert & Martina (Burger) Kiefer. He married Cecelia Meyer on July 1,1950 in St. Meinrad Archabbey church. She preceded him in death on January 6,2013.
Roman was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 30 years. He served on the USS Princeton during WWII and was aboard when the ship was sunk. He was a member of St. Meinrad Legion Post 366, & Jasper V.F. W. Post # 673, a member of Fleet reserve of Owensboro. He enjoyed fixing electrical appliances and sharpening saws.
He is survived by one son, Terry L. Kiefer and his wife Stella of Lawrenceville, Ill.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kiefer of Jasper and one brother, Otto Kiefer of Holland; his caregivers, Betty Kirkhoff and her husband John of Evanston.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Kiefer; sisters, Annie Siefrig and Rosalyn Schmitt; brothers, George, John, Hugo, Robert, and Ambrose Kiefer.
Funeral services 11:00 a.m. CST Friday at St. Meinrad Catholic Church, St. Meinrad.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. CST to service time Friday at the church.
