Rodger B. Derr, 90

Rodger Bollinger Derr Jr. passed away quietly at home of natural causes, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. He was 90 years of age.

He will be remembered with love by his wife Jennifer of 39 years; sons, Joshua, (grandson Gideon) Andrew (Kasey) and David (Ariel); granddaughters, Alice and Kathryn; grandsons, Ezra and Judah.

Rodger served his Lord in many capacities at First Baptist Church. One of his favorite ministries was Gideons International, a body of believers dedicated to making the Word of God available to everyone, together with the local church. Rodger also found much fulfillment working at Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville, Tennessee, a leading and trusted name for Christian books, bible studies and church supplies.

At First Baptist Church (Jasper), Rodger’s tenure as both Sunday School Director and his service as a deacon and mentor was very gratifying to him. During the worship service, he provided visual presentations to aid the congregation during worship. Rodger particularly enjoyed his Sunday School Class, providing and receiving good-natured banter and time well spent with friends, neighbors and his church family.

We invite friends and neighbors to a Celebration of Life Service for Rodger on Sunday, July 20, at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church: 3556 North Portersville Road, Jasper, Indiana.

Another leaf has fallen, another soul has gone.
But still, we have God’s promises, in every robin’s song.
For He is in His heaven, and though He takes away,
He always leaves to mortals, the bright sun’s kindly ray.
He leaves the fragrant blossoms, and lovely forest, green.
