Robert O. “Bob” Sunderman, 84, of Jasper, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Bob was born in Duff, Indiana on July 11, 1931 to Albert and Selma (Schmett) Sunderman. He had two marriages. His first marriage was to Betty L. Keller on April 24, 1954 at Emanuel Hill Lutheran Church in Dubois. She preceded him in death on August 7, 2004. His second marriage was to Janice A. (Meyer) Lee on June 17, 2005 at Trinity United Church of Christ.
Bob retired from Jasper Engines and Transmissions after 48 1/2 years as a Parts Manager. He was also co-owner of RO Sunderman Homebrew and Wine Supplies and was a master homebrewer and winemaker.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, where he had served as a church council president.
He was a 50 year charter member of the Masonic Line Lodge No. 743 in Jasper; member of the Hadi Shrine; and a past president of the Dubois County Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Shrine Million Dollar Club, the Jasper Eastern Star, Hadi Mariners, Jasper German Club, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and served as a past member of the Board of Directors of the Providence Home in Jasper.
He enjoyed gardening, especially tomatoes, and traveling with his family on cruises.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Sunderman of Jasper; daughter, Carol Meyer and husband Greg of Ireland; son, Robert D. Sunderman and wife Lori of Jasper; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Moody and husband Keith of Nobelsville and Catherine Lee of Jasper; one stepson, John Christopher Lee of Cannelton; one brother, Ben Sunderman of Huntingburg; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death beside his first wife Betty was one sister, Shirley Donnerman, and two brothers, Allen and Roy Sunderman.
Funeral services for Robert O. Sunderman will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper with burial to follow in Haysville Community Cemetery in Haysville, IN. Pastor Jane HIllman will officiate.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, IN, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service time at Trinity United Church of Christ on Tuesday. The Masonic Line Lodge No. 743 in Jasper will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
