Robert L. Schmitt, age 85

Robert L. Schmitt, age 85, of Jasper, passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday (April 27, 2013) at home.

Robert was born on March 5, 1928 to Dominic and Caroline (Mehringer) Schmitt. He married Doris Bartley on August 2, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN.

Robert was a lifelong farmer who retired after 60 years of farming in Dubois County.

He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and the Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid Indiana University basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Gail Mehringer and husband Russ, Jasper, IN

Preceding him in death are three brothers, Ruben, Dominic Jr., and Eugene Schmitt, and one sister Viola Matthews.

Funeral services for Robert Schmitt will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (May 1st, 2013) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (April 30, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
