Robert L. Haas, 85

Robert L. Haas, 85, of Velpen, Indiana, passed away at 5:10 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2014 at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

He was born March 31, 1929 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Henry A. and Rosena (Mehling) Haas. He married Virginia “Jennie” Nell Givens on March 9, 1968 in Shawneetown, Illinois.

Mr. Haas was a retired furniture factory worker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He served as a Private First Class in the United States Army during the Korean War. When he first entered military service he enlisted with the 181st Airborne before being transferred to the 68th AAA Gun Battalion. It was during his deployment in Korea that he received a service connected disability.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Jennie” Nell Haas, who passed away June 28, 2012; one brother, Leroy Haas; and his parents.

He is survived by one daughter, Theresa Hathaway of Princeton,; Three sons David (Debbie) Haas of Huntingburg, Jerry Haas of Lynnville, and Roger W. Brown of Evansville; two sisters Lucille Kellams of Jasper and Shirley Haas of Velpen; five grandchildren,
Misty Cederholm of Princeton, Chris Hathaway of Princeton, Amanda “Mandy” Haas of Indianapolis, Cody Haas of Kyana, and Stacee Campbell of Lutz, Fla.; and five great grandchildren Bailee, J.W., Liberty and Ethaniel Cederholm, and Klayton Campbell.

Funeral services for Robert L. Haas will be held at 10:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City, Indiana.

The funeral will be officiated by Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand and Deacon Thomas Holsworth will perform the committal rites at the cemetery. The V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday. A parish rosary service will be prayed at 3:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.nassandson.com.
