Robert J. “Bobby” Heitz, 84, of Huntingburg, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper with family by his side.

He was born July 24, 1933, in Huntingburg to Anselm and Emma (Reckelhoff) Heitz. He married Ardella Stemle on May 28, 1955 in St. Anthony.

Bobby was a lifelong farmer on the family homestead farm. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved Farmall tractors. He enjoyed bow hunting and was a champion shooter associated with Blue River Archery in Corydon. He was an avid muzzle loader shooter, coon and deer hunter, He was also a 49-and-a-half year cancer survivor.

He was preceded in death by:  his daughter, Virginia Boehm; his sister, Anselma “Sally” Heitz; and brother-in-law, Conrad Blessinger.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ardella Heitz of Huntingburg; his son, Paul Heitz of Huntingburg; his son-in-law, Randy Boehm of Holland; two sisters, Mary Lou Blessinger of Huntingburg and Norma (Jack) Truelove of Jasper; two granddaughters, Angela (John) Burton of Huntingburg and Melissa (Kade) Terwiske of Ireland; two grandsons, Travis Boehm of Indianapolis and Jonathan Boehm of Holland; eight great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Ryan Hilderbrand.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. A parish rosary prayer vigil, led by Deacon Tom Holsworth, will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to your local Cancer Society, St. Mary’s Church or the Humane Society.
