Robert C. Patterson, 79, of Jasper, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
He was born on October 19, 1935 in Loogootee, Indiana to Timothy and Bernadine (Nordhoff) Patterson. He married Imogene Merkley on Jan 15, 1955 in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Robert was a member of Jasper High School Class of 1953. He owned and operated Patterson Landscaping and Produce for many years and was one of the first vendors at the Jasper Farmer’s Market. He operated the Patterson TV Service and also worked for Lick Fork Marina for 10 years. He was the owner of the Safari Upland Shooting Preserve.
Robert is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Jasper-area Coin Club, Jasper Moose Lodge #1175 , and Dubois County Museum.He had been a member of the Eagles Club at Huntingburg, Finn’s for Fun Club, Ducks Unlimited, and Jasper Jaycees.
He was instrumental in organizing the slow pitch soft league and building the men’s and women’s softball fields in Jasper.
He was an avid outdoorsman who fished, hunted, boated, and gardened. He had a love of animals and would feed them on the Jasper Riverwalk.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Patterson; daughters, Desiree Wech and her husband, Donald, of Hazle Township, Penn., Dawnelle Arvin and husband, Scott, of Jasper, and Darla Blazey and her husband, Scott, of Jasper; sons,Dean Patterson of Pearl City, Haiwaii, Darren Patterson and his wife, Ann, of Jasper, and Dane Patterson and his wife, Amy, of Heath, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Michael Patterson and his wife, Judy, of Jasper, Kenneth Patterson and his wife, Lu, of Eureka, Mo., Justin Patterson and his wife, Elsie, of Virginia, Louis Patterson and his wife, Clarissa, of West Baden Springs, and John Patterson and his wife, Pam, of Montgomery, Texas.
Preceding him in death is one sister Rosemarie Schnarr.
Funeral services for Robert C. Patterson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, in Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
