Rita Gehlhausen, 83

Rita Gehlhausen, 83, of Ferdinand, passed away Wednesday August 14, 2013 at The Waters of Huntingburg.

She was born August 18, 1929 at St. Meinrad to Edward and Claudina (Schnellenberger) Meyer. Rita married Urban Gehlhausen on July 19, 1952 in St. Meinrad. He passed away December 2, 2007.

Rita is survived by six sisters, Esther Ellingsworth of Florida, Elsie Phieler of Lanesville, Beatrice Ellingsworth and husband Richard of Jeffersontown, KY., Phyllis Nystrom and husband Cliff of Grand Forks, ND., Jane Schnieders and husband Cricket of St. Henry, and Carla Neukam of Huntingburg; a brother Dennis Meyer of Indianapolis also survives.

Rita was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Taber and a brother Clarence “Oaks” Meyer.

Rita was retired from Western Electric in Indianapolis. She enjoyed casinos and playing bingo.

Services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Deacon James King will officiate. Burial will be in St. Martin of Tours Cemetery in Siberia. Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
