Rita Ann Gasser, 85, Huntingburg

Rita Ann Gasser, 85, of Huntingburg, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born September 28, 1931, in Saint Meinrad, Indiana to Sylvester “Jack” and Elfreida (Meyer) Becher. She was united in marriage to Ralph E. Gasser on February 5, 1955, at the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church.

Rita worked as a registered nurse. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg as well as St. Mary’s Faithful Quilters, Ladies Sodality, picnic committee and church choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Gasser, who died January 3, 2004; and one brother, David Becher.

Rita is survived by five children, Mark Gasser, Paul (Kay) Gasser, John (Jackie) Gasser, Christine (Joe) Buening and Matthew (Misty) Gasser all of Huntingburg; two siblings, Janie (Lee) Ramsey of Evansville and George (Judy) Becher of Huntingburg; by (16) grandchildren and (17) great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Rita Ann Gasser will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Ryan Hilderbrand.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday. A parish rosary prayer vigil, led by Deacon Tom Holsworth, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
