Richard L. Steinhart, 88, Jasper

Richard L. Steinhart, 88, of Jasper, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Northwood Retirement Center in Jasper.

He was born June 7, 1929, in Ireland, Indiana to George and Emma (Sermersheim) Steinhart.

Richard retired from the former Jasper Veneer Mills where he had worked for 37 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. Richard enjoyed playing cards, Wii Bowling and Bingo. He was a great historian and loved talking to people especially in German

He is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Neuhoff of Jasper; nephews, Kenneth Neuhoff (Kathleen), John Neuhoff, Tom Neuhoff (Karen) and Harold Neuhoff Jr. (Brenda); nieces, Sue Schroeder (David), Debra Lueken (Timothy), Cindy Bredhold (Steve), Cheryl Hentrup (Kenny) and Mary Jo Begle (David); several great-nieces and -nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents is one sister, Betty Jean Steinhart; and a brother-in-law Harold Neuhoff Sr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ireland, Indiana.

Friends may call from noon to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Rosary will be held at noon on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Northwood Retirement Community Center in Jasper.
